Despite overwhelming evidence of its importance, some large companies still neglect customer experience (CX). I believe SLT, the national telecommunications provider in Sri Lanka, still hasn’t figured out the value of providing a great customer experience. Because: ❌ When we call the SLT call center (1212) and mistakenly dial the wrong extension, there's no option to be transferred to the correct section. We have to call again. ❌ There’s no option to listen to the previous guideline. ❌ They don’t provide clear information about billing and sometimes our data usage. Instead, they should: ✔ Create a seamless experience for the company’s hotline. ✔ Train call center staff to deliver excellent customer experiences at every touchpoint. ✔ Provide clear information about billing procedures before customers inquire about them. I appreciate their connection speed and everything else they provide to customers, including me. But they need to focus more on CX. Like many companies, SLT should realize the critical role of CX in driving business success and invest heavily in improving their customer experiences. ✳ I hope they will consider this in the future. Reinforcement: Positive reinforcement and rewards for maintaining the habit can strengthen its integration into your lifestyle. Long-term Integration: The habit becomes more ingrained, and the likelihood of continuing it without conscious effort increases. Reflecting on the progress and benefits can reinforce the desire to maintain the habit. Dampened prospects for Ceylon tea in 2025 Ceylon tea, one of Sri Lanka’s major export earning industries, may be significantly impacted if the simplified value added tax (SVAT) is repealed in 2025, Mlesna Ltd. Founder and Chairperson Anselm Perera told The Daily Morning Business yesterday (7). “In the event that it is repealed, we would have to pay Rs. 3-4 billion to the government before we export, at the point of buying, before we even collect the tea. The broker won’t release the tea until we make the full payment,” Perera said. The SVAT is a mechanism that reduces the volume and amount of VAT refunds to be processed by the Inland Revenue Department, and thereby also minimizes the cash flow impact of taxation before export on exporters. Under the extended facility fund (EFF) with the IMF in 2023, Sri Lanka agreed to a structural benchmark to repeal the SVAT framework by April 2025, with the conventional VAT refund processing model replacing it. In September of 2023, a cabinet decision was released mandating the repeal of the mechanism in April of this year. Read more:
